Magician's Favourite Reporter

Let us go back in time to nearly 4 years ago . Where were you and what were you doing ? How much have you changed and what have you accomplished in life during that four years ?

Why did I ask that question ?...You see , four years ago , a reporter from THE STAR contacted me . His name was Izuan Shah , he had a very low pitched voice and sounded as humble as a person could be . Izuan practically started my carrier in performing `live ' shows ... what Izuan did actually was that he  gave my passion for `magic ' the jump start it needed .

Izuan interviewed me with my friend Yoon Fei ( who has since retired ) in THE MAGIC ACADEMY ( located in SS2) which regretfully has since closed down ...Yes , I know , The person who did the interview with me has stopped magic , and the place the interview was held is no more to be seen ...distant memories .

My 1st interview was by far the hardest one I had done in my life ... Many who read the article did not realize that the actual interview was held over two days . One was at the office and one more at the streets of Kuala Lumpur . I was to perform RAW Street Magic to strangers on the street while a cameraman was snapping pictures . After that , Izuan was to interview the people who had just witnessed me perform while I somehow `vanished ' ...

It is never easy walking up to a Malaysian on the street and say
` Can I show you something ? '

They'll practically shout ` flasher !!!" ....and this is seriously not a joke

The interview went really well and what happened next was history . I think ( please quote me if I'm wrong ) that I am the ONLY magician who has ever gotten a 3 page spread cover story ( with the exception of mentalist Shaun Tan ) in Malaysia at that time .

That particular article lead to many shows and contacts . It practically started off my magic business . Over the past years , I have been featured in many articles as well as many local media coverage ( such as TV3 and 8TV) ...but NOTHING beats the feeling of seeing your face on a center spread for the very first time ...

To be truthfully honest . My magic today would never been the same if it was not Izuan who was interviewing me on that very day. I've worked with MANY reporters and Izuan is the best by far . He's friendly , humble and very diligent in his work .

Izuan also introduced me to MANY events over the past following years , He got me to perform at NOUVO when I was underage , He interviewed me for a 2nd time coming about a year and a half back , HE got me into the ROYAL LONDON CIRCUS and got me to sit right in front of the stage with my friends ,and he even brought me back to his apartment to meet his housemates and helped me out in filming my first magic video .

Unfortunately , I've heard Izuan has since stopped working at THE STAR . The last I heard from Izuan was when he called me a few months back to perform at his band's gig in Damansara . Izuan plays in a rock band called  AUBURN . I had to decline because my engineering exams were clashing with his date ..Felt so guilty ...

This posts goes out to my favorite newspaper reporter , Izuan Shah , thank you so much for everything and may luck govern you all the way in what you are venturing into right now .

This is one helluva post to read LOL..

Izuan's my high school pal, and he still does play in gigs around..

Shaun Tan on the other hand (the mentalist) happens to be my boss right now.. :)
